Making infusion time less stressful

Hello to all you wonderful mothers. I have a 4 year old that has a port. I'm still having a very hard time infusing him. He's very scared of the needle for one thing and he won't lay still. My husband and I have to hold him down. He yells, "don't hurt me" with tears running down his face. Needless to say it's very stressful. He has a brother that's 6 and he watches him get his infusions with no problem. Does anyone have any good ideas to help make this less stressful for him and my husband and I.
Thank you,
DeAnn

some times when you find a routine that works it helps, and if you involve the child so they have a part

Hi DeAnn,
Are you using a numbing cream? (Emla or LMX you can request is from your home care company.) It really helps. He will soon realize that the needle doesn't "hurt him." And hopefully it will take the stress away and possibly the mommy and daddy guilt away too.

It might also be helpful for him to see another child (who has become accustom to the procedure) receive their meds. i.e. at the treatment center...
